Fabrication

I have had the privilege of working on physical projects both very small and very large. Whether it’s working with power tools or paint brushes, I relish any experience that gives me an opportunity to make and handle art, especially if it requires great precision and care.

Tile Display Boards

As head of the display board department for Lowitz & Company, I build display boards by carefully measuring, cutting, and adhering stone and metal tiles (bronze, brass, stainless steel, zinc, and powder coated aluminum) to pieces of MDF. I then grout, clean, and photograph the boards before preparing for shipping. Each board is approximately 12” x 18”.

Drum Crane Tower

As part of a select team, I helped design and build this 24 foot tall, 4-level spectacle performance platform. It rotates freely 360 degrees and has a 30 foot diameter footprint. At the base of the tower is a pivoting 30 foot long boom arm that can hoist over a ton, suspending everything from a silks aerialist to a grand piano. It is designed to fit in a large box truck and be assembled on site with only hand tools.

Fire Flower

One of several objects I have worked on involving fire, the Fire Flower was designed to fit within a much larger structure.

I assisted the lead artist with welding, as well as rigging of the pulley operated petal opening and remote controlled pyrotechnic systems.

Aerialist Chandelier

The installation of the Aerialist Chandelier is a good example of a project that required quick, precise work while maintaining the utmost levels of caution and safety.

In this instance, it was assembled and taken down by myself and skeleton crew in a single evening, deep within a building downtown. It absolutely had to be done correctly for the safety of both the performers and the audience.
